Can you imagine what a conversation would look like between someone in Hell and someone in Heaven? This Sunday, and next week in our Daily Worship Devotions, we conclude our Summer series Jesus’ Parables: Disruptive Grace by delving into a conversation exactly like that. In the parable we call The Rich Man and Lazarus, a rich man in Hell calls out to Abraham in Heaven, and they have a conversation. Like all of Jesus parables, this one is a challenging and disruptive one.
In this parable Jesus speaks to us about temporary good things, eternal torment, and how wealth and privilege can warp our perspective and expectations. So, take some time to read, reflect, and mediate on The Rich Man & Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31. As you do, reflect on your life and the world around you. Consider how the good things of this earth can distract us from sharing with and caring for others, as well as warp our sense of our rights and privileges.
I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.
Yours in Christ’s love,
