I leave for my annual retreat today. Please pray for God’s leading and protection. Tracey West, our RUFI missionary Pastor at Georgia Tech will be preaching this Sunday, continuing our Invest & Engage Together season by focusing on the Parable of the Sower from Luke 8:1-15.
If you haven’t checked out our Invest & Engage Together Capital Campaign website, I encourage you to do that – and to share it with others. Beginning Sunday, March 25, we will be asking and inviting people to fill out a 3-year Financial Investment Intention card. Between now and then, we are asking everyone to pray and seek God’s leading about making an investment.
Here are some thoughts from Pastor Tracey to consider as you prepare for Sunday:
A parable is a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth. Jesus’ parables can be found in all the gospels, except for John. The importance of the parables can hardly be overestimated because they contain deep theological truths within them.
Usually, the hardest part about a parable is figuring out what it means! Thankfully, in our text, Jesus provides the disciples with some of the answers to the Parable of the Sower.
Before you read the passage, ask yourself these questions:
- When did I first hear the gospel?
- What was my initial response to the gospel?
If you have an opportunity to dive into the text before Sunday, look through this passage and ask:
- Where is God in the story? What does this parable say (implicitly) about God?
- Where am I in the story?
- Where is the world in the story?
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Tracey West
